Hoffmann, V. & G. Alomar (2026): Mapping the Balearic Orchids: A Progress Report. This presentation outlines the project history and results of the 44-years enduring mapping project, featuring photographs and distribution maps of orchid species on a 1 km2 grid. It provides an overview of the history of botanical exploration in the Balearic Islands, focusing on the orchid flora and on recorded orchid findings since the 1980s. There are separate illustrated chapters on Ophrys pollinators and orchid hybrids. A distinction is made between 42 established species, which are still relatively certain to exist today, 8 failed immigrants observed in recent decades, and 13 species that are presumed extinct and 6 likely misidentifications.
